First Day Thoughts:

As always, it was an interesting day one. There were not many upsets, but definitely a few scares for some teams. How about Cal State Northridge? The Matadors had a six point lead on Memphis halfway through the second half. That certainly scared anyone who had Memphis going far in the Tournament. And American put a real scare into Villanova, up by double digits for a good portion of the second half before the Wildcats were able to recover and put them away.
The game of the day had to be VCU against UCLA. The Bruins were seemingly in control for much of the game but a late VCU rally gave them a chance at the end. And it set up a great matchup: Eric Maynor's offense vs. Darren Collison's defense. And Collison won out.
Biggest disappointment for me would have to be Clemson. The Tigers looked totally overwhelmed for much of the game, and lost their composure, as Terence Oglesby threw an elbow and got ejected. The Tigers could have used him down the stretch as they mounted a comeback and lost by just 3 points. This is the second straight year Clemson has looked great early in the year and then flamed out in the Tournament to a lesser opponent. I don't understand it.
The other eye-opener was the margins of victory for UNC and UConn. Both looked unstoppable in huge wins.

Here's to another great day of action!
