Elite Eight Recap
We had four more very competitive games this weekend, as the Final Four is set. If anyone predicted these four, you should go ahead and buy a lottery ticket. Let's start with the first game, where Butler continued to impress in knocking off Kansas State. I think fatigue was definitely a factor for the Wildcats. And Butler made solid plays down the stretch to win and head home to Indy.
West Virginia pulled off a win over favorite Kentucky. It was a strange game, with WVU not making any 2 point field goals in the first half but still leading at halftime. In the second half, Kentucky's defense broke down, giving up way too many easy baskets. You have to wonder about John Calipari. If he couldn't win it all with this talent and no Kansas, when is he going to ever win?
Michigan State continues to get it done in March, taking out Tennessee in the last minute. Tom Izzo has really impressed me the last two years with his abililty to get the most out of his team during the tournament. Tennessee has to be kicking itself: it had a golden opportunity to get to the first ever Final Four and came up just short.
And Duke was able to knock off Baylor, with some strong offensive rebounding and clutch 3 point shooting late. Baylor impressed me with their athleticism, but just wasn't able to get it done down the stretch. If I were to pick a Duke team from the past 6 or 7 years to get to the Final Four, this one would not have been it. But they have gotten the job done in March.
